Why did the Buddha choose Benares to preach his first sermon?

The Buddha chose to preach his first Sermon at the city of Benares as Benares is regarded as the holiest of the dipping places on the River Ganges. His sermon had been preserved. It reflected the Buddha's wisdom about one inscrutable kind of suffering.
