Stockholm convention on persistent organic pollutants (POP's)

 The Union cabinet has approved the ratification of 7 chemicals listed under SCPOP. 1. Chlorodecone  2. Hexa bromo biphenyl 3. Hexa bromo diphenyl ether 4. Penta chloro benzene 5.Hexabromocyclododecane 6. Hexa chloro butadiene The ractification process would enable India to access global environment facility financial resources in updating the initial implementation plan. The Stockholm convention is a global treaty to protect human health and environment from persistent organic pollutants, which are the chemical substances that persist in the environment, bioaccumulate in living organisms and have the property of long range environment transport. Exposure to persistent organic pollutants can lead to cancer, damage to nervous systems, diseases of immune system, reproductive disorders etc.

DBT-BIRAC clean technology demo park

Union minister for science and technology inaugurated the park at *barapullah drain site in Sarai kale khan, New Delhi. the party will be used to demonstrate innovative waste to value technologies with support from *department of biotechnology and biotechnology industry research assistance council. This park will be managed by the clean energy international incubation centre, a public private partnership incubator set up jointly by DBT, BIRAC and Tata power.
