How to be honest with yourself | Be honest with yourself

I am sure you may have heard of the common saying, "Honesty is the best policy", but being truly honest with others and with yourself can be a real challenge.

As children, many of us may have lied in order to escape punishment but this behaviour sometimes continues till adulthood also, because sometimes we may just not know where to draw the line.

We should realize that lies and "mistruths" always come out in the end, and they always make someone or many people miserable. Whilst the truth can certainly be uncomfortable, it is always preferable in the long term to be honest and accept things as they are.

In order to be happy, you need to be honest with yourself and about yourself. Don't pretend things are normal if they are not, and don't go looking for problems that aren't there. All you have to do is, accept who you are but be conscious of what you are not happy with and what you want to change, and then take the necessary steps in that direction. Being aware of what is making you unhappy and trying to make that better is a powerful and self-liberating feeling. However harsh the punishment may be, don't ever lie. If you will be honest, you will have a clear conscience and will in turn be happy!
